Morning Glory: A Globally-Inspired Brunch Icon

Updated: Nov 24

Nestled in the heart of San Diego's bustling Little Italy, Morning Glory has redefined the brunch experience with a flair that’s equal parts theatrical and indulgent. This isn’t just a place to grab a late morning meal—it’s a destination that celebrates the culture of brunch with bold design, global flavors, and a rebellious twist on tradition. Let’s explore how this unique establishment has quickly earned its place as one of the city’s most talked-about dining spots.

A Visionary Creation: The Origins of Morning Glory

Morning Glory is the latest innovation from Consortium Holdings (CH Projects), the creative team behind some of San Diego’s most iconic dining destinations like Ironside Fish & Oyster, Craft & Commerce, and False Idol. With a $4 million budget and three years of meticulous planning, this daytime-only concept was designed to dazzle from the moment you walk through the doors.

Perched on the second floor of a Little Italy corner building, Morning Glory commands attention with its daring aesthetic. Designed by BASILE Studio, the space combines retro nostalgia with futuristic edge. From the moment you ascend the staircase, you’re greeted by a world of contrasts—pink terrazzo floors meet antique mirrored ceilings, and lush greenery cascades over bold wood paneling and blush-toned velvet booths. The atmosphere is unapologetically extra, creating an immersive environment where every corner is a visual feast.

A unique and playful take on globally-inspired brunch classics.

Morning Glory’s menu is a celebration of the most loved meal of the day, with flavors that span the globe. Executive Chef Jason McLeod and his team have created dishes that are both familiar and adventurous, delivering comfort and excitement in equal measure.

The whimsical menu includes:

  • Japanese Soufflé Pancakes: Fluffy, towering, and served with seasonal fruit or rich syrups, these pancakes redefine indulgence.

  • Very Frenchie French Toast: Thick, golden slices of brioche topped with cream, berries, and a dusting of powdered sugar.

  • Middle Eastern Shakshuka: A savory mix of poached eggs, spiced tomato sauce, and hearty bread for dipping.

  • Millennial Tears Avocado Toast: A tongue-in-cheek twist on a brunch classic, humorously nodding to pop culture.

For those craving something truly extravagant, the “Flight of Hot Chocolates” offers inventive flavors like maple cinnamon and strawberries and cream, served with as much style as substance.

The Art of Day Drinking: A Standout Cocktail Menu

At Morning Glory, brunch wouldn’t be complete without an expertly crafted cocktail. The bar menu takes center stage, offering a curated selection of low-ABV drinks perfect for daytime sipping. Highlights include:

  • Morning Glory Spritz: A refreshing blend of grapefruit-infused Contratto and sparkling wine, this cocktail is light, effervescent, and perfect for kicking off your day.

  • Turmeric Latte Martini: A creamy, golden-hued beverage that merges health trends with indulgence.

  • Mimosa Flights: A playful twist on the brunch staple, with variations featuring seasonal fruits and floral notes.

Every drink is served with the same attention to detail as the food, ensuring that even a simple mimosa feels like an elevated experience.

A Cultural Moment: The Impact of Morning Glory

Since its opening, Morning Glory has quickly become a phenomenon, drawing locals and tourists alike to its vibrant setting. But this is more than just a place to eat—it’s a cultural statement about how brunch can be a celebration, a ritual, and a showcase of creativity.

With its daring design, innovative menu, and boundary-pushing cocktails, Morning Glory challenges the idea of what brunch should be, turning it into an art form. As you sip your spritz and savor each bite, you realize that this isn’t just another meal—it’s a moment.

Morning Glory is open daily from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and reservations are not accepted. Arrive early to secure your spot, especially on weekends when the lines can stretch down the block.
