THE GOOD EATS GUIDE

Savoring Simplicity: Why Restaurant Marlow is Maui’s Go-To for Wood-Fired Pizza

Up in Pukalani, where the air is cooler and the pace feels a little slower, Restaurant Marlow has quietly become a staple. Opened in 2021 by chef Jeff Scheer and his wife, Kaili, it’s the kind of place that focuses on doing a few things really well—starting with their Neapolitan-style sourdough pizzas, cooked in a kiawe wood-fired oven brought in from Italy.

The space itself is simple and inviting. Clean lines, an open kitchen, and a steady flow of locals and visitors who seem to know they’re in for something good. The pizzas here hit that perfect balance—charred and crisp on the outside, soft and chewy in the middle. The Salsiccia, with house-made sausage and caramelized onions, is a solid choice, but the Funghi, loaded with local mushrooms and garlic confit, holds its own. Beyond the pizzas, the meatballs en sugo, a mix of locally sourced beef and pork in a rich pomodoro sauce, are worth the order.

Sourcing local ingredients isn’t just a selling point here—it’s the standard. The greens come from Kupa’a Farms, and other produce from nearby spots like Lapa’au Farms, giving each dish a freshness that’s hard to miss.

Marlow doesn’t take reservations, which means there’s often a wait, but with Mahalo Aleworks right next door, it’s easy to grab a beer and take your time. Service is straightforward—friendly but no-nonsense—and everything moves at an easygoing pace.

Marlow isn’t trying to be flashy, and that’s part of the appeal. It’s just good food, thoughtfully made, in a place that feels right at home in Upcountry Maui. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual dinner or grabbing takeout for a slow evening at home, it’s a spot that delivers without overcomplicating things.
